NEXUS_Atelier Wunderkammer

Nexus explores the 21st century Wunderkammer through the idea of an interactive space designed to facilitate human connections, located in the V&A Dundee Michelin Design gallery. We live in an age where the collection of experiences and memories take precedence over material possessions however despite this studies reveal that over 9 million people in the UK across all adult ages are always lonely. In this digital age people can go for weeks or months on end without being touched, embraced or hugged by another. This is incredibly isolating and is causing a breakdown in the way we make connections with fellow humans. Nexus aims to combat the social media disconnect between people by creating a situation where physical contact is necessary for the functionality of the design. Through the act of simply holding hands two people complete the circuit changing the way the space reacts.
